When Ferrari unveiled the 2023 class of its Ferrari Driver Academy two days ago, some people were surprised that Robert Schwartzman was missing. After shining in karting, the 24-year-old Russian won the FIA F3 European Championship in 2019 with Prema before finishing 4th and then 2nd in FIA F2 behind Oscar Piastri but ahead of Guanyu Zhou, Dan Ticktum and Théo Pourchaire. And always with the colours of the Italian team.

Last year, he was the test and reserve driver for Scuderia Ferrari in F1, jumping into Charles Leclerc's car during the first free practice session of the US Grand Prix in Austin (Texas / USA). He will keep this role this year alongside Antonio Giovinazzi.

Although he was reportedly approached by Lamborghini / Iron Lynx and did some convincing tests in IndyCar, the native of Tel Aviv (Israel) decided to remain within Ferrari. The Italian firm's arrival in the Hypercar category is no stranger to this, even if the six seats have already been filled for 2023.

This year, Schwartzman will be competing in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, a championship he will contest in a Ferrari 296 GT3 lined up under the AF Corse banner and shared with Nicklas Nielsen and Alessio Rovera.

Because of the measures taken against Russia, he is now wearing the colours of Israel.
