Race 1 - Crash at the start at Brands Hatch!

The first race of the GT World Challenge Sprint Cup season was quickly interrupted by the safety car following a multi-car accident.

Like yesterday in the International GT Open (see HERE), the start of Race 1 of the first round of the GT World Challenge Sprint Cup was chaotic. After putting two wheels in the grass, Igor Waliko lost control of his #86 Akkodis ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3. The Pole went on to hit Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer, who hit his team-mate Benjamin Goethe.

With two cars out of the race, WRT has to face with a bad start to its campaign, hoping that its mechanics will be able to repair the two R8 LMSs before the start of the Race 2 at 4:00 pm GMT.

Adrien de Leener is the collateral victim of this accident. He also finished in the gravels with his #54 Dinamic Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Unsurprisingly, Waliko was given a 10" penalty to observe during the pit stop.
