Vandalism, fights and a charge by the CRS on the eve of the 1972 Le Mans 24 Hours

In 50 years, the world has changed. You would think that in 1972, on the eve of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the city centre would be calm in anticipation of the event of the year in the region. Nothing of the sort with fights, vandalism and aggression. This made the headlines: "The traditional rodeo on the eve of the 24 Hours in Le Mans degenerates: vandalism, fights, 100,000 francs of damage on the Place de la République.
According to reliable witnesses, the rodeo regulars, annoyed by the parade in the city centre, went to the cafés in the Place de la République to wait for the road to be cleared.
Fighting in coffees
This is how fights broke out in some of coffees in the city, much more serious it seems at the coffee named Scarron. Last year, the owner of the establishment was forced to ask the English who were causing a disturbance to leave.
