Porsche all set to kick off Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and SRO GT Cup campaigns in Shanghai

Meanwhile, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia will get its 23rd season underway at the same venue, with a record breaking 30 cars becoming the first One-Make Series to race the new Porsche 911 Cup (992.2).
The grid will see 12 different countries and regions represented as the championship once again starts and ends on the support bill of Grands Prix, with the finale being hosted at Marina Bay Street Circuit in October.
An impressive 11 drivers will take on the Pro category, including Porsche Junior Marcus Amand and two-time Porsche Carrera Cup France champion Marvin Klein, as well as the eight-strong Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Talent Pool Presented by Michlein.
Five entries will tackle the Pro-Am class, with 10 Porsche 911 Cup (992.2) competing in Am and four in the Masters category.
There are also six outfits supported by Porsche dealers and importers in the Asia-Pacific region who will compete in the Dealer Trophy. 2025 holders BWT Shanghai Yonda will be aiming to defend its crown up against Team Porsche Malaysia, Team Porsche New Zealand, Team Jebsen, Porsche Own Retail 69 Team and newcomers Porsche Centre Adelaide.
Track action gets underway on Friday with Free Practice at 12:55 local time. Saturday kicks off with Qualifying from 09:10, before the 2026 season opener begins at 16:55 later that day. It’s then lights out for Round 2 on Sunday at 11:55, with both races being available to watch on the Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific YouTube channel
SRO GT Cup
Two Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport will take on the SRO GT Cup opener, which returns after a successful maiden year of competition which saw large grids of Bronze and Silver-rated drivers racing in GT4 machinery. Porsche enjoyed a strong campaign in 2025, claiming the Am-class title with the returning Moritz Berrenberg.
After this weekend’s action, the 2026 calendar then features a stand-alone event at Zhuhai International Circuit on 8-10 May, before back-to-back rounds supporting GT World Challenge in Shanghai and Beijing. The season finale will take place in November with details to be confirmed in due course.
Reigning Am-class champion Berrenberg is back to defend his crown in the Maxmore W&S Motorsport #927 entry. The German driver scored four victories and two further podiums during the campaign, which also saw him earn third in the overall drivers’ standings.
Climax Racing and Yin Jin Chao will both make their debuts in the championship with the China GT and Porsche Sports Cup China racer taking the wheel of the #222 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
On-track action begins on Friday with two practice sessions starting at 08:20 and 17:00 local time (UTC+8). Qualifying kicks off Saturday’s proceedings with Qualifying from 08:15, before the season opener at 12:25. It’s then lights out for the second race of the weekend on Sunday at 09:10.
Moritz Berrenberg, Maxmore W&S Motorsport: “Starting the SRO GT Cup season on the support bill for the Chinese Grand Prix is really special. Racing on the same stage in front of such a large crowd creates a fantastic atmosphere and gives the championship great exposure. After winning the Am title last season, my objective is to defend the championship. It’s still difficult to know how strong the competition will be, but that’s what makes the start of a new season so exciting. I’m looking forward to the challenge and to fighting at the front again.”
Yin Jin Chao, Climax Racing: “I’m really excited to be making my SRO GT Cup debut this weekend in Shanghai. I’ve been doing a lot of testing over the off session to prepare in the best way possible, so I’ll push hard to earn a strong finish.
