Walkenhorst Motorsport will once again be competing in this year's GTWC Europe with two Aston Martin Vantage GT3
Walkenhorst Motorsport will once again be competing in this year's GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS. In recent years, the SRO racing series has established itself as Europe's top GT racing series. The championship is characterised by a high level of performance and exciting races. The racing team from Melle will compete in the entire season with two Aston Martin Vantage GT3.
In the Endurance Cup, the team will field one car in the Pro class and one in the Silver Cup. The team aims to fight for top results in both categories.
Aston Martin factory drivers Christian Krognes and Henrique Chaves will once again compete for the Lower Saxony-based team, as they did last year. In addition, Jamie Day, who won the AMR Driver Academy in 2024 and became champion in the Silver Cup of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup in 2025, will strengthen the Pro car in the Endurance Cup. Walkenhorst Motorsport is currently evaluating promising young drivers for the Silver Cup car in the Endurance Cup during test drives in France and Italy. It is already certain that Mateo Villagomez and Ethan Ischer will form the basis of the driver line-up.
Walkenhorst Motorsport team boss Jörg Breuer: "The line-up for the GT World Challenge Europe looks very promising! Our Pro car will be driven by two Aston Martin factory drivers, both of whom we know very well. In addition, Jamie Day, an up-and-coming talent who impressed with strong performances last year, will be joining our team. We are currently testing other talented drivers for our Silver Cup car so that we can put together the best possible team for the upcoming season."
Mission ‘Youth Research’ for Walkenhorst Motorsport in the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup
In the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup, Walkenhorst Motorsport is focusing entirely on promoting young talent. The team's two Aston Martin Vantage GT3 will compete in the Silver Cup, which is exclusively for drivers with a Silver rating.
Mateo Villagomez, Jamie Day, Maxime Robin and Gaspard Simon, who won the SRO GT Academy in the FFSA GT Championship last year and is being sponsored by the SRO this year, have been confirmed as drivers for the sprint races. The team will finalise the exact driver line-up after further test drives in Misano, Italy.
‘Anyone who knows Walkenhorst Motorsport knows that promoting young talent is very important to us,’ says Jörg Breuer. ‘We have signed promising and fast drivers for the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup season. Our goal is to have a say in the Silver Cup title race, so we will use the test drives to put together the best possible teams.’
The GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS consists of five Sprint Cup weekends and five Endurance Cup weekends. In the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup, two one-hour sprint races are held each weekend with a driver change at half-time. The Endurance Cup features five endurance races with distances ranging from three to 24 hours. The CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa is the absolute highlight of the season and, with over 70 GT3 cars, the world's largest GT race.
