Eight Porsche entries to tackle first-ever 12H MALAYSIA at Sepang

Porsche entries make up almost half the grid at this weekend’s Michelin 12H MALAYSIA at Sepang International Circuit, with four cars in both the GT3 and 992 categories.

The event marks the opening round of the 2025/26 Michelin 24H SERIES Middle East and is the first time the championship has travelled to the Far East for a race.

 

Three-time GT World Challenge Asia Teams’ Champions Origine Motorsport fields three of their four Shanghai 8 Hours winners, with Liu Hang Cheng and GT World Challenge Asia Drivers’ Champions Yuan Bo and Leo Ye being joined by Lu Wei in the #87 Porsche 911 GT3 R.

 

Hong Kong-based driver Antares Au completes a strong trio alongside Loek Hartog and Patric Niederhauser for Absolute Racing, while Thailand Super Series racer Henk Kiks is joined by Deng Yi, Vincenzo Ricci and 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and reigning Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup champion Alessandro Ghiretti in the B-Quik Absolute Racing machine.

 

The final Porsche 911 GT3 R comes from Herberth Motorsport and features Ralf Bohn and Constantin Dressler, who are joined by brothers Alfred and Robert Renauer.

 

In the 992 category, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia’s Francis Tjia, John Shen and Christian Chia, who all took race victories in their respective classes, team up with Benny Simonsen in the #216 Modena Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

 

A quintet of Chinese drivers are at the wheel of 610 Racing’s #666 entry, with Cao Qikuan, Zhang Yaqi, Lu Zhiwei, Yang Haojie and Li Lin all looking for a strong showing in Malaysia.

 

Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Am class runner-up Eric Kwong races alongside Valters Zviedris, Jiatong Liang and Bayley Hall for Mühlner Motorsport, while Dutchman Ivo Breukers teams up with his two sons, Luc and Rik Breukers for Red Camel-Jordans.nl in the #909 car.

 

On-track action starts with Free Practice on Friday from 11:00 (UTC+8) local time. Qualifying gets underway later that day at 16:00 before Night Practice concludes the busy schedule at 19:00. Saturday then sees lights out for the gruelling 12-hour enduro around the Sepang International Circuit at 10:00.

 

Lu Wei, Origine Motorsport: “With the 2025 season coming to a close, it’s great to be able to race at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend in what will be an enjoyable event.”

 

Liu Hang Cheng, Origine Motorsport: “I’m looking forward to a fun few days of racing with the team after our success together back in October at the Shanghai 8 Hours.”

 

Yuan Bo, Origine Motorsport: “This event acts as great preparation for the upcoming Asian Le Mans Series campaign, so I’m now totally focused on the challenges that are ahead.”

 

Leo Ye, Origine Motorsport: “I’ve been working hard to be race ready for this 12-hour enduro in Sepang as we look to achieve the best result possible.”

 

Loek Hartog, Absolute Racing: “I’m looking forward to racing in the 12H MALAYSIA, which will be great preparation for Asian Le Mans Series. Our line-up is strong, and the weather looks very interesting, meaning that anything can happen! We’re aiming for a clean race with a solid strategy to pick up a good result.”

 

Alessandro Ghiretti, B-Quik Absolute Racing: “A big thank you to Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific and B-Quik Absolute Racing for this incredible opportunity to compete in the first 12-hour endurance race of my career. I’m extremely excited for the challenge and looking forward to being back at Sepang, it’s a track I really enjoy and one I’ve had success at in the past. I’m really happy to be competing for Absolute Racing and I hope we can achieve a strong result together.”

 

Henk Kiks, B-Quik Absolute Racing: “I’m excited for this race, it’s a new challenge with a really tough field of drivers, teams and cars, so we’re expecting a demanding race! I’m familiar with the car following Thailand Super Series and I have three very accomplished teammates, so I think we are strong all-round. It’s great to be a part of the first running of this race and I can’t wait to get started.”

 

Vincenzo Ricci, B-Quik Absolute Racing: “I’m really looking forward to driving the Porsche 911 GT3 R for the first time and I’m confident that Absolute Racing’s extensive experience will help me adapt to the car quickly. My teammates for this race are very strong, and I’m excited to competing alongside them as we aim for a great result this week.”

 

Deng Yi, B-Quik Absolute Racing: “I’m very excited for Winhere to work with Absolute B-Quik Racing at 12H MALAYSIA this weekend. Driving the Porsche 911 GT3 R is going to be a new adventure for me, but I believe that with the efforts of the entire team, we can achieve a fantastic result.”

 

Francis Tjia, Modena Motorsports: “I’m excited to be taking part in a Creventic event again after first competing in the 24H Dubai back in 2012. When it was first announced we made it an absolute must to be available to race at the event and here we are! It’s a great line-up and we’re looking forward to competing.”

 

Christian Chia, Modena Motorsports: “Sepang is always intense and demanding but I know that the team will thrive in these conditions and help us to deliver a strong result.”

 

Benny Simonsen, Modena Motorsports: “I can’t wait to race this weekend around the Sepang International Circuit. It’s a pleasure to be driving for such an amazing team like Modena Motorsports and we’ll give it our best to achieve a solid performance.”
