DragonSpeed Back to the Future for 2026
DragonSpeed – runner-up in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD PRO class as well as ELMS champions, triple Rolex 24 winners and Le Mans 24 Hours Pro/Am victors in LMP2 – is shifting gears again for 2026.
A move to the Pro/Am GTD class in IMSA will see DragonSpeed renew its ties with GM Motorsports to field a new Corvette Z06 GT3.R, the model which claimed this year’s GTD PRO title. The team will take delivery of its chassis later this month, with private testing to commence shortly thereafter.
Long-time team Bronze driver Henrik Hedman returns to full-time competition to chase IMSA’s Akin Award and the coveted Le Mans entry that comes with it. The Florida-based Swede will be joined by Italian Giacomo Altoè in the squad's pro seat with Britain's Casper Stevenson filling the team's Silver slot. Altoè starred for DragonSpeed in 2025, taking the most poles in GTD PRO in his first full season of IMSA competition. Stevenson's rookie IMSA tour saw him claim his first series pole and victory at Watkins Glen on his way to third in the final GTD class points.

Elton Julian, DragonSpeed team principal: “We’re proud to rejoin the GM Motorsports family with the launching of our Corvette campaign. I’ll always remember the support we had from Chevrolet as rookies – and sophomores! – at the Indy 500. When we entered the GT fray after LMP2, it was very much with a future Chevy relationship in mind. Of course, we had to demonstrate that we could handle the transition between categories, and I think taking the championship fight to the last round this season showed we can do the job.”
“The entire team is looking forward to working closely with the incredibly skilled and experienced group at Corvette Racing. The extraordinary competitiveness of the IMSA GTD class makes this one of our biggest challenges yet, but we are excited and ready to make the most of the opportunities offered by the mighty Z06 GT3.R and a collaboration with Corvette.”
Jessica Dane, Corvette Racing Program Manager: “This continues to be an exciting time for Corvette Racing with the addition of DragonSpeed's Corvette Z06 GT3.R for the 2026 IMSA GTD championship. Everyone in our organization saw up close the talent and fight within the team during the GTD PRO title chase in 2025. We're looking forward to having Henrik, Elton, and crew bring that same level of competitiveness to an already strong GTD class with our third Corvette in the category.”
Henrik Hedman: "I'm back! After a year out, I'm as motivated as ever and eager to take on the new challenge of racing against IMSA's best GT teams and drivers. The proven strength of DragonSpeed and driver lineup gives us a strong foundation to take advantage of the amazing Corvette Z06 GT3.R platform. We're exceptionally grateful to Chevy for their support and giving us the chance to run the Corvette in our quest for the Akin Award and what would be our sixth Le Mans entry."
Giacomo Altoè: “It’s an honor to continue my journey with DragonSpeed for another year in IMSA, building on our great run in 2025. I can't wait to get to work with Henrik and Casper for the season ahead in our new Corvette! I'm confident we have the pace, experience, and car to achieve our goals.”
Casper Stevenson: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining DragonSpeed for 2026. Seeing their long record of achievement in IMSA and beyond, along with their performance in GTD PRO this year, I'm really looking forward to contributing to the team's success next season.”
