McLaren Automotive appoints Giorgio Sanna as new Head of Motorsport
McLaren Automotive today announces the appointment of Giorgio Sanna as Head of Motorsport, overseeing all of McLaren Automotive’s GT products and customer racing activities and reporting into Jonathan Simms, Director of McLaren Special Operations & Motorsport, McLaren Automotive.
Prior to joining McLaren Automotive, Sanna was Head of Motorsport at Automobili-Lamborghini S.p.A for nine years, overseeing the brand’s WEC, GT and one-make racing programmes. This followed a successful GT racing career that included title successes in the 2011 Italian GT Championship GT3 class and in GT Am in the 2014 Asian Le Mans Series.
Sanna will now oversee McLaren’s successful GT racing operations, which includes the championship-winning McLaren Artura GT4 and McLaren GT3 EVO cars, and the McLaren Trophy, which features the McLaren Artura Trophy EVO racecar.
The appointment of Sanna follows the recent departure of Ian James.
“Giorgio Sanna’s appointment as our new Head of Motorsport further strengthens a division of McLaren Automotive that is integral to our brand DNA. Maintaining a strong and enduring connection to our racing heritage firmly aligns us with our most passionate and committed clients, and securing a recognised leader in the GT racing arena to lead McLaren Motorsport signals our determination to drive growth in this area.” Jonathan Simms, Director of McLaren Special Operations & Motorsport, McLaren Automotive.
