QUALIFYING: VDS Panis Racing take one step closer to ELMS title with pole at Silverstone

Esteban Masson in the no48 VDS Panis Racing Oreca claimed the point for pole at Silverstone, opening the championship lead up to 21-points ahead of tomorrow’s Goodyear 4 Hours of Silverstone.

Masson set the early pace, going to the top of the timing screens despite losing his first lap to track limits.He set a 1m43.171, with Nick Yelloly in the no43 Inter Europol Competition in second and Roy Nissany in the no30 Duqueine Team in third.

 

Theo Pourchaire in the no25 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca was also in the mix, going into provisional pole with a 1m43.088 with just under seven minutes on the clock.

The times continued to improve with Matteo Cairoli going to the top with a 1m43.190 lap in the no9 Iron Lynx-Proton but a lap later Masson responded to go into provisional pole position with a 1m42.343 in the final two minutes of the session.

 

At the chequered flag it was Masson from Cairoli, with Yelloly moving up from the back of the field to take third place at the chequered flag with a 1m42.792, 0.245s ahead of the no25 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca in fourth.

 

LMP2 Pro/Am:PJ Hyett Takes Pole by Slim Margin at Silverstone

 

The no99 AO by TF Oreca-Gibson took pole for the Goodyear 4 Hours of Silverstone with PJ Hyett’s lap of 1m45.318 just 0.017s faster than the no77 Proton Competition Oreca of Giorgio Roda, the Italian chasing his fourth pole of the year.

 

However, it was the American who claimed his second pole and take the point to close the gap to championship leaders Algarve Pro Racing to just two points.

 

The no29 TDS Racing Oreca of Rodrigo Sales qualified third, 0.910s behind the pole time and 0.126s ahead of the no27 Nielsen Racing Oreca of John Falb.

Championship leader Kriton Lentoudis struggled and finished 8th in the no20 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca and will start at the back of the class grid.

 

LMP3: Griffin Peebles Grabs Pole in Thrilling LMP3 Qualifying

 

After four poles on the bounce for the no17 CLX Motorsport Ligier, the no12 WTM by Rinaldi Racing Duqueine took pole at Silverstone with Griffin Peebles taking the chequered flag in 1m53.038, just two tenths ahead of the no15 RLR MSport Ligier of Gillian Henrion.

 

On a drying track the times tumbled throughout the session with several cars making a bid to start at the front of the LMP3 grid for tomorrow’s race at Silverstone.

 

Peebles made a bid with three minutes left, posting a 1m53.504 lap but was knock off the top spot by the no17 CLX Motorsport Ligier of Theodor Jensen by just 0.071s. However the Dane’s time was beaten by Gillian Henrion by just 0.017s, with Henrion improving again on the next lap with a 1m53.314.

 

Griffin Peebles was on a flying last lap and he crossed the line to take his first ELMS pole position for WTM by Rinaldi Racing. The RLR MSport Ligier will line up on the front row. The no17 CLX Motorsport Ligier will head row 2 and the no11 Eurointernational of Ian Aguilera finishing the 15-minute session in 4th.

 

LMGT3: Iron Dames Takes Pole at Silverstone

 

Célia Martin took the chequered flag with a 2m11.819 lap to claim the second pole of the day for the Iron Dames team after Vanina Ickx took pole for the Michelin Le Mans Cup race earlier in the day.

 

Martin Berry held the upperhand for most of the session in the no63 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG as the damp track started to dry. The Australian was looking for his fourth pole of the 2025 season but the no85 Iron Dames Porsche kept close to him at the head of the timing screens.

 

The no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari of Takeshi Kimura went to the top of the timings half way through the session, with Celia Martin deposing the Japanese driver within 20 seconds with Martin Berry going to the top again with a 2m12.784 lap, to lead by 1.7 seconds.

 

Berry tried to improve his time but just couldn’t put in a better lap.Meanwhile Martin improved with a 2m13.006 to close the gap to 0.222s. The French driver backed off on the next lap and then went for a final attempt with less than a minute on the clock. Martin set a purple time in both sector 1 and sector 2 before taking the chequered flag with a 2m11.819, 0.965s ahead of the no63 Mercedes-AMG, with Celia Martin claiming her first ever ELMS pole position.

 

Championship leaders Racing Spirit of Léman will start 3rd after Clement Mateu lapped in 2m13.712, just 0.029s ahead of the no23 United Autosports McLaren of Michael Birch. The top six places were filled by six different manufacturers.

 

The Goodyear 4 Hours of Silverstone will take place tomorrow, Sunday 14 September, at 11h00, an hour earlier than planned due to the weather warning in place for the UK.
