Gibson Technology is today, pleased to announce the three primary partners it will be working with for the development and supply of its next-generation LMP2 powertrain unit, that will power cars in the category from 2028 to 2032.

The new engine will be designed and manufactured in collaboration with NISSAN / NISMO. The 3.4 litre, V6 unit will feature twin turbochargers and include a direct fuel injection system.

Gibson Technology’s relationship with NISSAN / NISMO will allow the best aspects of modern automotive technology to be combined with bespoke motorsport engineering to deliver a reliable racing internal combustion engine. Furthermore, it will deliver the fully assured security of supply at a cost effective and sustainable price.

Bosch Motorsport has been selected as Gibson Technology’s electronics partner for the project, providing electronic components to control the powertrain including the ECU, powerbox and wiring harness, along with a newly designed steering wheel developed by MoTeC, part of the Bosch group.

Meanwhile, the powertrain’s transmission system will feature a new transverse gearbox, complete with bellhousing and gearshift system, developed by technology partner, Xtrac. The design of the new transmission will focus on durability and performance, with the aim of delivering reduced long-term cost of ownership for LMP2 teams.

Commenting on the partnerships, Mark Brittan, managing director, Gibson Technology, said: “We are incredibly proud to be working alongside our technical partners for the development and delivery of the new LMP2 powertrain system.

This exciting project promises to deliver fantastic performance for teams competing in LMP2 series around the world from 2028 onwards, while ensuring costs are kept under control and supply is reliable.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our technical partners for their contributions and hard work so far. We look forward to working with them all as well as continuing our highly successful collaboration with the approved chassis constructors.”

Further details of the new powertrain will be released by Gibson Technology over the coming months.
