Tom Lebbon took his and Elite Motorsport & Entire Race Engineering’s maiden pole this morning at the Hungaroring. In another very warm day in Hungary, the young Brit dominated Saturday’s qualifying session at the wheel of the yellow Ferrari 296 shared with Tom Emson.

“Despite losing one free practice session because of a driveshaft, and not having raced here before, we have been competitive straight away and hope to have a good result this afternoon.”, commented  Lebbon.

Lebbon’s time (1.45.519) left the second-fastest, Ralf Aron in the GetSpeed Mercedes, 0s539 behind. The Estonian led a great part of the session. In row 2 will be Michael Porter in the Optimum McLaren (+0s634) and Max Hesse (Racing Trevor BMW, +0s681), who led the early part of the session.

This means that four different car brands are represented in the top four. Yannick Mettles (SPS Mercedes, +0s685) and Simon Reicher (Eastalent Audi, +0s734) will be in row 3, while local hero and championship leader Levente Révész (+0s811) will start from row 4 alongside Karol Basz (Olimp Racing Audi, +0s888).

Mark Sansom, in the Garage 59 McLaren, was fastest among Am cars and 22nd overall.
