Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller drive Porsche 963 in Spa
Nico Müller and TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team works driver Pascal Wehrlein will compete for Porsche Penske Motorsport at Spa-Francorchamps in the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Wehrlein will join Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor in the number 6 Porsche 963 on the second weekend in May.
Like the German, the Frenchman and the Belgian are reigning FIA World Champions. Nico Müller will compete in the Belgian Ardennes as the third driver in the number 5 hybrid prototype. The Swiss will form a trio together with Michael Christensen from Denmark and Frenchman Julien Andlauer.
Wehrlein and Müller's entries will serve as preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 14 and 15 June. There, the Formula E champion will drive the third factory Porsche 963 with the number 4 together with Nick Tandy from Great Britain and Felipe Nasr from Brazil. Tandy and Nasr compete for Porsche Penske Motorsport in the North American IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Series, where they have won the first three races. Müller is travelling to Le Mans as the official reserve driver for the works team.
"In preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it is obviously first class that I can celebrate my debut in the FIA WEC at Spa-Francorchamps and get to know the way Porsche Penske Motorsport works even earlier - every competitive kilometre with the Porsche 963 counts," says Pascal Wehrlein. "With Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor, I have two team-mates from whom I can learn a lot. I'm really looking forward to competing on such an iconic race track as the Belgian Grand Prix circuit."
"I'm super happy to be supporting Porsche Penske Motorsport as the official reserve driver at Le Mans and doing my bit to help achieve the big goal - although of course I hope I won't be needed there!" says Nico Müller. "I'm also looking forward to returning to the WEC and competing in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps alongside Julien Andlauer and Michael Christensen. After my Sebring stint in the IMSA series and during testing, I will be able to complete more important laps with the Porsche 963 there. This is a great opportunity for which I would like to thank Porsche Penske Motorsport and also my Formula E team Andretti for making it possible."
