QUALIFYING: Matteo Quintarelli Takes Top Spot in Barcelona for 23Events Racing
A drama filled qualifying session for the first round of the 2025 Michelin Le Mans Cup saw the first championship point claimed by Matteo Quintarelli in the no50 23Events Racing Ligier JS P325-Toyota. The Italian’s time was a 1m34.647, 0.863s ahead of the rest of the LMP3 field and 1.21 second inside the best ever LMP3 lap on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Quintarelli set the provisional pole position lap early in the session and improved it by nearly 1.2 seconds by the time the chequered flag was displayed.
The no16 Team Virage Ligier was the best of the rest with Theo Micouris lapping in a session best for the no16 Ligier of 1m35.510, 0.094s ahead of the no85 R-ace GP Duqueine of Hadrien David, who will be joined on row 2 of the grid by the no6 ANS Motorsport Ligier of Axel Gnos.
LMP3 Pro/Am: ANS Motorsport on Pole for Barcelona Round
Julien Lemoine claimed the first ever pole position for the new generation of Toyota powered LMP3 cars when the French driver posted a 1m37.929 in the no84 ANS Motorsport Ligier JS P325-Toyota.
Lemoine faced strong opposition from Terence Woodward in the no28 23Events Racing Ligier, Shahan Sarkissian in the no31 CD Sport Duqueine D09 and the no62 Bretton Racing Ligier of Ben Stone.
With five minutes left on the clock the no84 Ligier went into the pitlane at the top of timing screens which left the rest of the field trying to find some time. Woodward improved to a 1m38.182 to claim second place, with Sarkissian moving up to 3rd in the final minute of the session to take third with a 1m38.320 ahead of the no62 Bretton Racing of Ben Stone.
GT3: Team Motopark Take First Pole of 2025 Season
Heiko Neumann took the first pole of the 2025 Michelin Le Mans Cup, finishing the 15-minute session at the top of the timing screens.
The German put the no65 Team Motopark Mercedes-AMG on provisional pole position early on and improved several times to fend off a determined challenge by the no51 AF Corse Ferrari 296 of Alessandro Cozzi and the no11 Code Racing Development Aston Martin Vantage of Philipp Sager.Neumann’s best lap was a 1m43.098, posted with just over 2 minutes left on the clock.
The battle for second place on the GT3 grid went to the no11 Aston Martin after Sager posted 1m43.349, 0.251s behind Neumann and just 0.083s ahead of Cozzi’s Ferrari.
Round 1 of the 2025 MLMC will take place at 18h20 later today.
