Multiple Race Winner Kessel Racing confirms entries for Gulf 12 Hours
Just days after publishing the driver line-ups for the Asian Le Mans Series, Kessel Racing is pleased to confirm its two-car entry for the Gulf 12 Hours. The team from Grancia (Switzerland) will compete with two Ferrari 296 GT3 in a hunt to add yet another race victory at the prestigious event held at Abu Dhabi just before Christmas.
Kessel Racing has been one of the most victorious teams participating in the Gulf 12 Hours, having secured four overall wins starting from 2015 up until 2018, whilst also taking victory in the AM class in 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2021 and one PRO-AM win in 2017. The team also brought some big names to the race. MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi competed for Kessel Racing in 2019 and 2021, when he was third overall and first in class at Bahrain, where the race was held due to Covid restrictions. Both Loris Capirossi as well as Jorge Lorenzo also raced for the Swiss-Ferrari squad in the past.
For the 2024 edition, Kessel Racing enters the #11 car with Murat Cuhadaroglu, who raced with them in the Ferrari Challenge, the Italians David Fumanelli, Giorgio Roda and Davide Rigon. The #74 Ferrari will be driven by the third-placed champions of the Michelin Le Mans Cup, Andrew Gilbert and Fran Rueda, who will be joined by Tanart Sathienthirakul. The 31-year-old Thai driver started his motorsport career in 2006 and has raced both Formula and GT cars.
The entry list sees a provisional 21 teams being confirmed for the iconic traditional end-of-season event in Abu Dhabi, which will see a return of the two-part format, with an opening eight-hour endurance section followed, after a two-hour break, by a four-hour sprint to the chequered flag, creating a second starting ceremony in the magical night atmosphere of Yas Marina Circuit.
