Toyota and United Autosports take 1-2 places in qualifications in Bahrain
Hypercar pole position is taken by the No.8 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hypercar for tomorrow's BAPCO Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain
Brendon Hartley sets a fastest lap of 1m46.714s to take his third consecutive pole at Bahrain in the No.8 Toyota. Nyck de Vries makes it a 1-2 for Toyota in the No.7 GR010 Hypercar as he and Kamui Kobayashi strive for a last ditch drivers title push.
No.51 AF Corse Ferrari 499P places third with a time set by Antonio Giovinazzi that is just 0.043s off de Vries’ best.
Proton Competition with Neel Jani aboard is the best placed Porsche as Swiss sets best of 1m47.234s. Fifth fastest time in Hyperpole is set by the No.50 Ferrari AF Corse 499P driven by Antonio Fuoco after fighting back from technical issues in FP3.
No.6 Porsche Penske, that is leading the drivers points standing heading in to the final race, completes the top six with Kevin Estre in the cockpit. The rest of the top 10 is filled out by: 7th No.12 Hertz Team Jota Porsche; 8th No.15 BMW; 9th No.5 Porsche Penske; 10th No.20 BMW.
Both Alpines and Peugeots fail to make it out of qualifying session along with No.2 Cadillac, Lamborghini Iron Lynx, No.83 AF Corse Ferrari and No.38 Hertz Team Jota Porsche.
In LMGT3, United Autosport McLaren score a 1-2 front-row lock-out for the BAPCO Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain tomorrow. Joshua Caygill in the No.59 United Autosports McLaren takes the British manufacturers second WEC Hyperpole top spot in LMGT3 with a best lap of 2m02.201s
That time is just 0.002s ahead of the sister McLaren driven by James Cottingham on a fantastic day for United Autosports who take its first WEC pole position point. The No.55 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari places third as Francois Heriau laps just 0.16s off the second placed McLaren.
Iron Dames take the outside of the second row as Sarah Bovy lap in 2m02.636s in the pink Lamborghini at the track where she won 12 months ago. New champions Manthey PureRxcing grab fifth with Aliaksandr Malykhin takes the Porsche to another impressive qualifying run. The top six is completed by the No.27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage with Ian James qualifying the car.
LMGT3 top ten is completed by: 7th No.54 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari; 8th No.81 TF Sport Corvette; 9th No.82 TF Sport Corvette; 10th No.78 Akkodis ASP Lexus.
Tough qualifying session for BMW Team WRT and Proton Competition Ford Mustangs as they fail to make it out of the initial qualifying session. Do to does the No.91 Manthey EMA Porsche which with Yasser Shahin, Morris Schuring and Richard Lietz is fighting for the runners-up position in the points standings.
