Topping the times after setting a rapid early lap of 1m30.561s is the No.6 Porsche Penske 963 Hypercar of Kevin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor (set the time) and Andre Lotterer.

The points leading trio are just 0.010s ahead of the No.8 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid of Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa. The top two are the only cars in the 1m30s bracket as No.50 Ferrari AF Corse 499P of Miguel Molina, Antonio Fuoco and Nicklas Nielsen places third on a best of 1m31.104s.

Matt Campbell peaks on a 1m31.128s lap in the No.5 Porsche Penske 963 Hypercar to place fourth in car he shares with Frederic Makowiecki and Michael Christensen. The second of the Toyota GR010 Hybrid Hypercars is fifth as Japanese manufacturer aims to make it a historic 10th win in 11 races at Fuji Speedway this Sunday.

Rounding out the top six is the AF Corse Ferrari 499P as it looks to use momentum of its superb COTA win two weeks ago and fight for FIA Hypercar World Cup crown.

First of the Peugeot 9X8 Hypercars is seventh as Stoffel Vandoorne sets time that is just 0.008s off the No.83. Alpine continue its strong progress in first ever season with A424 Hypercar design as the No.35 car that took best yet fifth place at COTA places eighth. No.12 Hertz Team Jota Porsche and No.51 Ferrari AF Corse Ferrari complete the top 10 and ensure that just 0.7s covers first to 10th

United Autosport McLaren set the pace in LMGT3 as the No.95 car of Joshua Caygill, Marino Sato and Nico Pino lead the way on a time of 1m40.528s. That time, set by Sato, who only raced at Fuji for the first time last month is remarkably matched to the exact thousandth of a second by the No.55 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari driven by Alessio Rovera.

Third in class is the sister VISTA AF Corse Ferrari as Davide Rigon peaks on a 1m40.793s. Fourth is the No.60 Iron Lynx Lamborghini Huracan as Franck Perera drives to a best lap of 40.849s. The top six is completed by the No.88 Proton Ford Mustang and the No.78 Akkodis ASP Lexus.

The No.95 United Autosports McLaren causes the only red flag of session as Gregoire Saucy stops at T10 with 20-minutes of the session remaining after contact with Alex Lynn in the No.2 Cadillac.
