COTA Qualifying : Ferrari AF Corse and Heart of Racing Claim Pole for Lone Star Le Mans
HYPERCAR: POLE – No.51 FERRARI AF CORSE
Antonio Giovinazzi in the No.51 Ferrari 499P seals pole position at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas for round six of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship, the ‘Lone Star Le Mans’ after epic Hyperpole session. No.51 Ferrari AF Corse with Antonio Giovinazzi at the wheel as he sets a scorching 1m50.390s quickest lap to take that cars first top spot of the season.
Robert Kubica in the No.83 AF Corse Ferrari 499P makes it a Prancing Horse 1-2 as the yellow 499P laps 0.277s off Giovinazzi’s best.
No.2 Cadillac Racing Hypercar driven by Alex Lynn places third after late lap bumps the No.35 Alpine driven by Charles Milesi who creates major surprise with excellent qualifying lap.
No.50 Ferrari AF Corse 499 qualified by Antonio Fuoco takes fifth position to ensure three Feraris in the top five positions. No.5 Porsche Penske 963 driven by Matt Campbell completes the top six.
Rest of top 10 is completed by 7th No.20 BMW M Team (Frijns); 8th No.15 BMW M Team (Vanthoor); 9th No.7 Toyota (Kobayashi); 10th No.12 Hertz Team Jota Porsche (Nato). Championship leading No.6 Porsche Penske 963 Hypercar starts a lowly 14th in Hypercar after Kevin Estre struggles to get in a quick lap in qualifying session.
No.36 Alpine A424 of Mick Schumacher doesn’t make it in to Hyperpole as qualifying as he grapples with door hatch opening after insect enters cockpit
LM GT3: Pole – No.27 Heart of Race Aston Martin
Ian James in the No.27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage grabs a spectacular pole position by setting a brilliant lap of 2m05.587s. American/Brit takes first pole for the Heart of Racing team on their home circuit.
Sharing the front row is Sarah Bovy in the Iron Dames Lamborghini Huracan who laps 0.172s adrift of pole.
Leading the second row of the grid is the No.55 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari qualified by Francois Heriau. Championship points leading No.92 Manthey PureRxcing Porsche 911 RSR GT3 in hands of Aliaksandr Malykhin places fourth making it four different manufacturers in the top four.
Rest of Top 10 is completed by No.81 TF Sport Corvette Z06 GT3 driven by Tom van Rompuy and the No.54 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari driven by Thomas Flohr. Van Rompuy though placed under investigation by stewards for possible impeding
