ELMS - QUALIFYING: Deletraz Takes Pole for AO by TF at Spa

Under blue skies and the thermometer hitting 28 degrees, qualifying for the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps got underway.

With James Allen in the no30 Duqueine in the provisional pole position, the LMP2 session was interrupted by a red flag with just under six minutes of the session left to run when the no22 United Autosports Oreca of Ben Hanley went off at T11 into the gravel.The no47 COOL Racing of Fred Vesti also went off in a separate incident at Les Combes.

 

Once the session resumed there was just time for one flying lap and the drivers made the most of it, with Louis Deletraz posting the fastest time with a 2m01.253 to become the fourth different pole sitter in 2024.

 

Charles Milesi put the no65 Panis Racing Oreca on the front row with a 2m01.660, just 0.005s ahead of championship leader Tom Dillmann in the no43 Inter Europol Competition. Ritomo Miyata claimed the other spot on Row 2 for tomorrow’s 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in the no37 COOL Racing, 0.399s behind Dillmann.

 

LMP2 Pro/Am: Debut Pole for Richard Mille by TDS

 

Rodrigo Sales claimed a debut pole for himself and the Richard Mille by TDS team by the slimmest of margins.The American claimed pole at the chequered flag with a 2m04.537 lap, just 0.033s ahead of Giorgio Roda in the no77 Proton Competition Oreca, denying the Italian driver his fourth pole in a row.

 

The no24 Nielsen Racing Oreca of former LMP2 Pro/Am champion John Falb was in the top spot for most of the 15-minute session but eventually ended up in third place, missing out on pole by just 0.133s.Reigning champion Francois Perrodo was fourth in the no83 AF Corse.

 

LMP3: Julien Claims Second Pole for RLR MSport

 

Gael Julien became the first driver in the 2024 season to claim a second LMP3 pole, taking the chequered flag in the no15 RLR MSport Ligier to start the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps at the head of the category grid.

 

The session was red flagged before any of the cars had set a fast lap when the rear left wheel of the no4 DKR Engineering Duqueine detached from the car and Wyatt Brichacek was forced to pull off the track.

 

The session resumed with 11 minutes on the clock, and it was the no17 COOL Racing Ligier of Manuel Espirito Santo that went to the top of the timing screens, just ahead of Oscar Tunjo in the no12 WTM by Rinaldi Racing Duqueine.

 

Gillian Henrion then went quickest in the no8 Team Virage with a 2m12.513, but only for a matter of seconds when Oscar Tunjo took pole with a 2m12.259.

 

With two minutes left Espirito Santo went back to the top of the timing screens with a 2m11.887, just ahead of the no88 Inter Europol Competition of Pedro Perino. In the final minute Gael Julien was on a flying lap in the no15 RLR MSport Ligier and the French driver took the chequered flag to claim pole by just 0.040s.

 

LMGT3: Hamaguchi Takes Pole for Iron Lynx

 

The championship leading no63 Iron Lynx Lamborghini Huracan took the LMGT3 pole for the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, with Hiroshi Hamaguchi securing the top position with a 2m17.873, nearly a full second ahead of the rest of the field.

Johnny Laursen in the no50 Formula Racing Ferrari secured second place on the LMT3 grid with a2m18.834, 0.15s ahead of Martin Berry in the no97 Grid Motorsport by TF Aston Martin.

 

The no85 Iron Dames Porsche, which was a brand new car after the accident in FP1 yesterday, made it out of the garage and Sarah Bovy secured 5thplace on the grid with a 2m19.508 lap of her home circuit, just 0.262s behind the fourth fastest car, the no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari of Duncan Cameron.
