2024 Gulf 12 Hours details revealed
The Gulf 12 Hours will bring a new twist to its traditional two-part format when the world’s most prestigious supercar manufacturers compete for glory at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, on 15 December.
Since its first edition in 2012, the Gulf 12 Hours has established itself as a benchmark for GT-only motorsport events in the Arabian Gulf region, attracting the world’s leading manufacturers and top drivers. The 2023 edition saw GT3 competitors from Audi, BMW, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG, and Porsche.
Formula 1’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix venue will host the prestigious Gulf 12 Hours for the 13th time, delivering a premium experience for competitors and spectators alike thanks to its unparalleled facilities and warm welcome.
In common with all editions of the Gulf 12 Hours, organisers Driving Force Events have upgraded various aspects of the event to enhance the experience for everyone involved.
A Bronze or Silver-ranked driver is guaranteed to stand on the winners’ podium following updated driver line-up regulations. The Pro category can be contested by car crews featuring either one Bronze alongside any combination of Platinum, Gold or Silver drivers, or three Silver drivers. At least two Bronze-ranked drivers must be part of every Pro-Am category line-up while no Gold or Platinum drivers are permitted in the Am class.
Unlike earlier editions, which featured an equal split of two six-hour parts, the 2024 edition will consist of an opening eight-hour endurance section followed, after a two-hour break, by a four-hour sprint to the chequered flag. This will allow a second starting ceremony in the magical night atmosphere of Yas Marina Circuit and offer more value to competitors and fans.
As well as offering another exclusive opportunity to visit the starting grid for all ticket holders, the break will be utilised to offer fans, guests and media a unique opportunity to hear from the leading participants during a mid-race talk show.
Andrea Ficarelli, head of Driving Force Events: “We continuously strive to make the Gulf 12 Hours a memorable and enjoyable end to the racing season and the 2024 edition will be another milestone. As well as the familiar benefits of a world-class venue, a unique atmosphere and great facilities in ideal weather conditions, we have adjusted the race format and driver categorisations, based on constructive discussions with the teams and drivers. These factors will combine to make the 2024 Gulf 12 Hours another unforgettable experience.”
