GT Open - Pole on wet for Dominik Baumann (SPS Mercedes) in Hungary
Dominik Baumann today took pole position for Race 1 at the Hungaroring, in a wet session after the storms of the morning. The Austrian of SPS signed a time of 1.58.396 at the wheel of his Mercedes, conquering his second pole of the season.
“It was totally unexpected”, he admitted, “when I saw the rain this morning after two days of intense heat, I didn’t know how we could perform, but the car was really perfect. I just hope that we will be luckier in the race this time.”
Second-fastest, only 0s015 behind, was Eddie Cheever in the AF Corse Ferrari. In second row will be the Mercedes of Fabian Schiller (GetSpeed, +0s035), who led the session in the first part, and the Ferrari of Nicola Marinangeli (Spirit of Race, +0s275). In third the Audi of Karol Basz (Olimp Racing, +0s391) and the Mercedes of Marcos Siebert (Motopark, +0s410).
Among the new-comers, Alex Aka was the fastest (9th) in the Audi of Tresor Attempto, while local hero Dániel Nagy qualified 22nd in the Mercedes of Zengő Motorsport.
Timo Rumpfkeil (Motopark Mercedes) was fastest in Am and 16th overall, while thr #24 McLaren of Greystone GT could only do 2 laps because of electrical problems.
