Seven manufacturers in the DTM: Dörr Motorsport makes its debut with McLaren
A strong new addition to the DTM: Dörr Motorsport will line up with two McLaren 720S GT3 Evo in the series, ensuring that the high-class DTM field comprises seven manufacturers in the 2024 season. DTM newcomer Ben Dörr (Butzbach) and Austrian Clemens Schmid will go in pursuit of points in the two British super sports cars. For the first time in the history of the DTM, which celebrates its 40th anniversary on 11th March, cult manufacturer McLaren will start all the DTM races this season. The first opportunity for the two Dörr McLaren to show what they are made of will be the DTM season-opener from 26th to 28th April at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Tickets for the DTM are available online now. Prices start at € 39 and admission is free for under 16s when accompanied by an adult.
“We are very excited about taking on the biggest challenge in the history of Dörr Motorsport. Our debut in the DTM sees us enter the big stage of international motorsport, on which we will face strong opposition. For this reason, I am particularly pleased that the experienced experts at Project 1 will support us with their knowledge. In the first year, the focus is on evaluating data and findings, in order to prepare as well as possible for the following year,” says team principal Rainer Dörr, whose team celebrates its 25th birthday this year and, after five years in ADAC GT4 Germany, is now taking the step up to the DTM. Dörr’s son Ben joins the team in switching to the DTM. “To drive in the biggest racing series in Germany is an incredible honour and opportunity for me. I am confident that we have an exciting year ahead of us,” says the 19-year-old rookie.
In Clemens Schmid, the McLaren team has brought on board a wealth of GT experience. The Austrian has been actively involved in national and international GT racing without a break since 2015. After two years with Lamborghini in the DTM, he now switches to McLaren. “To compete in the DTM again, and with such an extraordinary car as the one provide by Dörr Motorsport and McLaren, makes me very proud. To be involved in developing and driving a project like this from the outset is a rare and precious opportunity,” says the man from the Tyrol region, describing his programme. “With this package and the team spirit, which is already palpable, we will make a statement or two in our first season in the DTM.”
