Nicolas Costa completes #59 United Autosports McLaren crew for 2024 WEC campaign
Nicolas Costa, reigning Porsche Carrera Cup Brazil Champion, will join forces with Gregoire Saucy and James Cottingham in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship – completing the 2024 line-up for the #59 McLaren 720S GT3 EVO with McLaren Automotive and United Autosports.
“I’m very excited for what’s about to happen. It’s a dream come true to be racing for McLaren Automotive and United Autosports … to be a part of this partnership is an honour,” says Costa.
The 31-year-old had a stellar 2023 season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Brazil in partnership with PRIO - Brazil’s largest independent oil and gas production company - taking seven victories in 12 races, celebrating a further four podiums (missing out on only one trip to the podium in the whole season), starting on pole position four times and, ultimately, taking the title of 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup Brazil Champion.
“Nicolas had a fantastic 2023 season, dominating the Porsche Carrera Cup Brazil and clearly demonstrating his GT3 capabilities,” says Richard Dean, United Autosports CEO. “Together with FIA Formula 3 podium placer Gregoire Saucy and British GT vice-champion James Cottingham, the #59 is set to be an exciting entry in a hugely competitive 2024 grid.”
Costa is now gearing up for the eight-round WEC series with the continued support of PRIO, as the Brazilian company enters into its fourth year of partnership with the driver.
“We are happy to announce that we will continue to support Nicolas’ career,” says Olivia Richardson, Head of Marketing and Communication at PRIO. “He is a focused, efficient and results-oriented athlete with a lot of synergy with PRIO´s culture and values, as well as United Autosports and McLaren Automotive, who also have efficiency and technology at their core. We will have many victories ahead.”
The 2024 calendar includes a home race for Costa and PRIO at the 6 Hours of Sao Paolo in July 2024 – the first time the WEC will return to Brazil since 2014.
“I’m really looking forward to this year,” says Costa, “driving such a great car and competing at world championship level in Brazil … and the 24 Hours of Le Mans … it’s something I’ve always dreamed of!”
