As soon as the chequered flag was waved, Roger Penske reminded everyone of his number 1 target when he decided to link the destiny of his team to that of Porsche.

Sunday was a great day for Porsche, but perhaps even more so for Team Penske. The legendary team from Mooresville (North Carolina) scored its second overall victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona, the first coming in 1969 with the triumph of the Mark Donohue / Chuck Parsons Lola T70.

An amazing day for the entire Porsche Penske Motorsport organisation,” said Roger Penske, Founder and Chairman of the Penske Corporation. “Both of our Porsches had great speed but more importantly, the reliability and the execution by our team allowed us to secure the overall win for the first time since 1969. Congratulations to the entire Porsche and Penske organisation on this monumental victory.”

And before continuing at the microphone of IMSA Radio: My hat's off to IMSA, obviously for Porsche to give us the equipment, but the drivers and at the end there with Felipe. But just to see the competitiveness and six or seven tenths of a second was a difference after 24 hours. It's unbelievable.

But above all, The Captain has been looking ahead to the challenges fo next few months, particularly the one in mid-June. “It’s hard for me to believe it,” he said. “This is one of the biggest wins we’ve had, now we’ve got to go for the big one at Le Mans, you know that.”

This is an obsession for the 86-year-old American, who hopes to be able to count on three 963s in La Sarthe. As Jonathan Diuguid, Managing Director of Porsche Penske Motorsport, confirmed to us once again, a dossier has been submitted to the selection committee to add another car to the two entered for the entire WEC.
