Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia continues excellent debut racing campaign
Kicking off Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific’s racing calendar for 2024, the six-round campaign, which is held at Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit on the tropical island of Lombok, is set for an intriguing final two races at the end of the month after this weekend’s action.
Starting with Saturday’s 25-minute Sprint Race, it was Ahmad F Alam who secured his first win in the series for Apriwa Motorsport, just five seconds ahead of last week’s winner, Rio Saputra Budiharjo in the Rizqy Motorsport machine. The pair head into the final weekend of the season level on points.
Aldio Oekon continued his fine form with a third podium in three races for Citadel Racing Team, while Merah Putih Racing's Hendrik Jaya Soewatdy and Luckas Dwinada took Am and Pro-Am glory respectively.
After a strong Saturday performance, Oekon put it all together in Sunday’s Endurance Race, taking a well-deserved victory in his striking black, orange and blue #15 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992). Soewatdy and John Kwon went one better than their result in December’s event, clinching second, plus the Am victory, with Alam and Rudi SL close behind in third for Apriwa Motorsport. Dwinada completed a solid weekend, taking another Pro-Am victory in the #83 car.
The debut season of Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia comes to an end later this month, with the final event set for January 26-28.
Bagoes Hermanto, CEO Superstars Motorsport: “We’re very pleased with the second weekend of the first season. In both the Sprint and Endurance Race, we witnessed great on-track action with plenty of battling for position. The drivers have settled in to the series and are proving their ability. Now, we look forward to the season finale in less than two weeks’ time to see who will be crowned champion.”
Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia continues to impress with the professionalism and standard of the series, just two events in. It was brilliant to see another strong grid of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars take on the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, and a huge congratulations to those who are taking trophies home. I’m already looking forward to the final event of the season and crowning our first Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia champions!”
