IMSA - Felipe Massa at the start of the 24 Hours of Daytona
It's been a long time since we last saw Felipe Massa. Well, the Brazilian has recently been in the news for taking steps that could jeopardise the outcome of the 2008 Formula 1 season. So much for the non-sporting side of things. Behind the wheel, Massa has never really stopped, as he continues to race in Stock Car Brazil.
But a few hours ago, Massa announced on social networks that he would be taking part in the 24 Hours of Daytona (January 27-28) in the #74 Oreca 07 entered by Riley in the LMP2 class. He will be sharing the wheel with compatriot Felipe Fraga, Josh Burdon and Gar Robinson, the outgoing LMP3 champion.
The announcement follows conclusive testing, first in a Ligier JS P320 and then in the Oreca 07. "Just dropping in to announce my participation in the 24 Hours of Daytona with Riley Motorsport, definitely a dream come true in my career" Massa said. "Special thanks to Gar Robinson for the invite! We will be four drivers together in this race, including Josh Burdon, Gar Robinson and my brother felipe Fraga, two Brazilians in search of victory! Let's get ready and go for it with our brand new LMP2!"
Here's another big name trying his hand at our favourite discipline. Massa may never have won the world title, but he can nonetheless boast 41 podium finishes, including 11 victories, in 269 Grands Prix, not to mention a total of 15 pole positions.
