Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific unveils new One-Make Series: Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia
The maiden campaign of the series will take place in December 2023 and January 2024, with all six races hosted by the state-of-the-art Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit on Lombok Island.
All participants will contest the Sprint Challenge Indonesia in the popular Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992). Fitted with a 4-litre six-cylinder naturally-aspirated boxer engine, delivering 510 PS, the 911 GT3 Cup is one of the most widely produced racing vehicles in the world. A sizeable field will take on the first race of the season next month, with the full entry list of drivers to be announced soon.
Measuring 4.313-kilometres, Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit first opened in 2021 and is situated on the coast of the picturesque tropical island of Lombok . The layout itself features plenty of quick turns, with swift changes of direction a key aspect. The braking zone through Turn 15 and into Turn 16 will challenge drivers, while the best overtaking opportunity is likely to be down the long pit straight towards Turn 1.
Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia joins a host of one-make series in the region overseen by Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, with the highly successful Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, which also uses the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, celebrating its 20th season this year. In 2017, Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand was launched as a partnership between Porsche and Thailand Super Series, while the Porsche Sprint Challenge China, run in the popular Porsche Sports Cup China, has been running since 2019.
Bagoes Hermanto, CEO of Superstars Motorsport: “We are tremendously excited to start the first season of Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia soon. With the extremely capable Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars and highly-motivated drivers, we look forward to bring the most thrilling one-make series ever to Indonesia.”
