Yifei Ye : « We will learn from this positive result »

It was overall a positive weekend here in Fuji after a two-months summer break. It was time to come back to a recetrack and try to do a good result.

The free-practice session have gone pretty well overall. We were looking strong on changing conditions. In qualifying, we didn’t get the best result when it started to rain at the end. So we have to start from P8. But we had a strong pace. Unfortunately, there was an incident with an LMP2 car for my teammate, which gives us a drive-through penalty, which compromised our race. But then, we still had a strong recovery to finish P6, showing strong result.

We still haven’t, I think, put our car in the correct window. I mean, we don’t have many tests, compared to the other manufacturers. So it was difficult for us to really find the right setup. But every kilometer we did during the weekend was useful.

For sure after this weekend, under hot conditions, with a lot of degradation, we would learn useful things moving forward to Bahrain, as it will also be an hot and challenging weekend in terms of tyre managment. At the end, P6 is still a positive result, and we’ll try to learn from it, and gather all things together, and have a positive weekend in Bahrain. And we still have a shot to finish on the podium.
