Local hero Paul-Louis Chovet and Max Paul took their second win of the season in Race 2 at Paul Ricard, after a brilliant race that confirmed the Lambos of Oregon Team are back for good. The success compensates for yesterday’s misfortunes in Race 1 on a weekend that saw the French-German pair taking both poles.

Second and back to the podium were Simon Reicher-Christopher Haase, in the Eastalent Racing Audi, with the Austrian conceding victory only at the end and for a narrow margin.

Again on the podium, this time as third, Diego Menchaca-Marcos Siebert in the Motopark Mercedes, a perfect result towards the overall standings, where they are now only one point (86 to 85) behind De Haan-Fagg (Optimum Motorsport McLaren), today sixth.

In the Pro-Am class, maiden victory for Andrew Gilbert-Fran Rueda, now with Optimum Motorsport. The McLaren beat the CBRX by SPS Mercedes of Dexter Müller-Yannick Mettler and the Bonaldi Motorsport Lambo of Sanporn Jao Jarvi-Milos Pavlovic.

In Am, third seasonal success and return to the class lead for the Motopark pair of Heiko Neumann-Timo Rumpfkeil in their Mercedes, ahead of the AF Ferraris of Sernagiotto-Cozzi and Saada-Grunewald.

THE RACE – It’s again a very warm afternoon on the French track when the start is given after an extra formation lap to rescue the AF Ferrari of Gino Forgione, stopped by a technical issue. From pole, local hero Pierre-Louis Chovet has an excellent kick-off, leading ahead of Rueda, Haase, Siebert, Pavlovic, Kolb, Fumanelli, Mettler, Korzeniowski and Grunewald.

Positions and gaps remain stable but by lap 7, Haase takes second from Rueda, with Siebert fourth and Kolb fifth having passed Pavlovic. There are two separate incidents, between Rosi and Perolini and Jefferies and Marinangeli, but no major issues while a beautiful battle for 9th is on between Korzeniowski and the two top cars in Am, Grunewald and Sernagiotto.

Progressively, Haase is catching Chovet and he passes him in lap 14 right ahead of the Mistral straight, right before the opening of the driver change window. After all changes, Reicher leads by a mere 0.5 seconds on Paul, with Renauer third ahead of Menchaca, Gilbert, Barr, Müller, Fagg, Jarvil, Arrow and Agostini.

The fight for the lead is fierce and Paul passes Reicher at the outside of turn 1 in lap 16. From there on the Lambo keeps the advantage although it will always stay under threat from the Audi. Menchaca takes third ahead of Barr, Renauer and Fagg.
