A major player in customer racing for over ten years, Audi Sport customer racing is preparing to bow out at the end of the season. The call of Formula 1 is stronger than all, and every effort is being made to ensure Audi's arrival in the premier discipline of single-seater racing in 2026.

According to our information, there will no longer be any official drivers in 2024, leaving no fewer than 14 drivers supported by the manufacturer with the rings on the sidelines. Of course, the teams will be able to continue racing with an Audi in 2024, but without any official support from the parent company, particularly financial support, via spare parts packages or official drivers. Only technical support and the sale of spare parts will be maintained.

The decision to put an end to any official programme in its current form comes logically from the group's board and not from Audi Sport. The teams concerned have already been informed of this decision.

However, it is not out of the question to see Audi in WEC and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2024 if a team so requests. The refusal may just come from the FIA/ACO tandem not to select the brand. What about a replacement for the current Audi R8 LMS GT3? Nothing has been said.

It is a real shame as it cannot be said that Audi Sport is doing badly in the field of customer racing. The German brand was once again in the running for victory at the 24 Hours of Spa, and battled at the front of the field at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Many teams are still putting their faith in the R8 LMS GT3 and GT4. Thirteen GT3s still took part in the last 24 Hours of Spa.

Finally, it should be noted that this change of direction also concerns TCR, while the Dakar programme is also due to cease after the next edition of the most famous of rally-raid events, next January.
