Tom Dillmann : « I'm taking a risk »
When Tom Dillmann joined Floyd Vanwall Racing Team, he knew the task would have been difficult against manufacturer-led Hypercar competition. The other WEC underdog, with Glickenhaus Racing, has been struggling for results since the 1000 Miles of Sebring. Finding a place among Ferrari, Porsche, Cadillac, Peugeot and Toyota is nt an easy task. After four races, Tom Dillmann has decided to leave the team run by Colin Kolles.
« There's no animosity in this end of the story, Tom Dillmann told Endurance-Info. We remain on very good terms despite the end of our collaboration. I can only thank a team that has allowed me to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times. Giving me my chance at Le Mans is something I can't forget. »
Since the season kicked off at Sebring, the Vandervell 680 has struggled in terms of pure performance, despite a strong fan following for a car with a real dinstinctive look. Unfortunately for Colin Kolles' men, results are yet to come.
« During races preceding Le Mans, I was hoping for a better start for this season. It's not an easy decision to make, because I know I'm taking a risk knowing that I don't have a fall-back program in Endurance. »
Since his arrival in Endurance, Tom Dillmann has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with. « I think I can bring something to a team that plays up front, he explains. I don't regret my choice, which has enabled me to gain experience in Hypercar racing. I'm aware that it's more complicated for a team and that it takes time. The gap at Le Mans was quite substantial and I hope it will work out for them in the future. »
The Frenchman will now focus on finding a team to bounce back with: "I was able to show that I was a solid person on the track. In Endurance racing, it's important to have a driver capable of bringing the car back. Of course, you have to look at the averages, but you need a complete package."
