24 Hours of Le Mans 2023 - The 186 drivers for the centenary edition are known
Empty slots were rare, but they are now filled. Indeed, the ACO has just unveiled the complete entry list for the centenary edition. As a reminder, 62 cars are expected to take the start : 16 in Hypercar, 24 in LMP2 and 21 in GTE Am.
Hypercar
While we have known for some time that the #708 Glickenhaus would be entrusted to Ryan Briscoe, Romain Dumas and Olivier Pla for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it remained to be seen who would be driving the #709 car alongside Franck Mailleux.
The Frenchman, who finished third in last year's race with Ryan Briscoe and Richard Wesbrook, will share the wheel with of a former LMP1 driver and a former F1 driver.
Seen with Rebellion in 2019 and 2020, Nathanaël Berthon will take part in his 8th 24 Hours of Le Mans. As a reminder, the 33-year-old Frenchman's best results in La Sarthe were a 5th place in 2019 and a 4th in 2020, also with the Swiss team.
The other lucky driver is Esteban Gutiérrez, who discovered the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year with Inter Europol Competition. The 31-year-old Mexican has 59 Formula 1 Grand Prix appearances to his name between 2013 and 2016 for the Sauber F1 Team and then the Haas F1 Team. Since then, the 2010 GP3 champion has been seen in Formula E, IndyCar, WEC last year and even the 24 Hours of Daytona at the end of January.
LMP2
DKR Engineering and Inter Europol Competition having raised the veil on their crews these last two days, no news is to announce.
GTE Am
On the #21 Ferrari / AF Corse, Julien Piguet joins Simon Mann and Ulysse de Pauw. The Frenchman, who takes the place of Diego Alessi, will be taking part in his second 24 Hours of Le Mans after a first appearance in 2020.
Thomas Neubauer was the only driver entered in another 488 GTE, in this case the #66 of JMW Motorsport. The Frenchman now knows the identity of his team-mates: they are the Italians Louis Prette (third start after 2019 and 2022) and Giacomo Petrobelli, who is already defending the British team's interests in the European Le Mans Series.
In the #74 Kessel Racing Ferrari, Fumanelli disappears in favour of three Japanese drivers. Kei Cozzolino, who has made two appearances in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2019 and 2020, is making his return. He will try to coach Yurikatsu Tsujiko and Naoki Yokomizo, ranked Bronze and Silver respectively. While both men have been seen in GT World Challenge Asia, the latter has also won Formula Toyota in 2001, Super GT - GT300 in 2012 and the 2013 Asian Le Mans Series.
As expected, Gianmaria Bruni will not be in the #88 Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR-19. The leader of this crew will be Harry Tincknell. For his 10th start, he will share the wheel With Oliver Millroye and Brendan Iribe. On the #911, Richard Lietz and Michael Fassbender will be accompanied by Martin Rump.
Finally, for its first appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans following its Asian Le Mans title, Walkenhorst Motorsport has decided to entrust its #100 Ferrari 488 GTE to rookie Chandler Hull, as well as to Andrew Haryanto (2 starts) and Jeffrey Segal, credited with three podiums in GTE Am, including a victory in five appearances.
Garage 56
No surprise for the Garage 56, as the Hendrick Motorsports Nascar Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will be driven by seven-time Nascar champion Jimmie Johnson, 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours winner Mike Rockenfeller and 2009 F1 world champion Jenson Button.
Reserve cars
According to this official list, none of the eight reserve teams have withdrawn their candidacy. However, barring a huge surprise, the Montoya family, Jonathan Adam and Timo Glock are all expected to remain on this reserve list.
