Julien Andlauer (Dempsey-Proton): "The pace of the Bronze-ranked drivers is becoming complicated
Like many other drivers, Julien Andlauer was on two fronts last week at Sebring, each time in a Porsche 911. There was the Dempsey-Proton Competition 911 RSR in the WEC with Christian Ried and Mikkel Pedersen, and then the IMSA in a 911 GT3 R at Kelly Moss with Riley with David Brule and Alec Udell. For the official Porsche Motorsport driver, both races resulted in podium finishes.
The 1000 Miles of Sebring ended with a 2nd place in GTE-Am and the 12 Hours of Sebring with a 3rd place in GTD. Despite these two great results, Julien Andlauer and his teammates did not have an easy time in Florida. At the 1000 Miles of Sebring, Julien Andlauer fought like hell to take second place in the GTE-Am.
"It was tough," Julien Andlauer told Endurance-Info as he stepped off the podium. "We did a perfect race according to our race pace. Incidents made it easier to get a podium finish. The Corvette and the Ferraris were really good. The end of the race was more favourable and I have to admit that I gave it my all because we had to get as close as possible in case a neutralisation happened." Under the chequered flag, the #77 Porsche finished two laps behind the winning Corvette, 14 seconds ahead of the Ferrari/Kessel Racing.
"The pace of the Bronze drivers is becoming complicated", explained the Frenchman, who once again shared his seat with Christian Ried. "To shine, you need the perfect strategy and the right pace if you compare with IMSA. It's not that it's better or worse, it's just different. It's about having the complete package. Christian hadn't driven for four months. He is spending more and more time developing the team by managing more and more cars. The level of the WEC in 2018 compared to 2023 is nothing like it. The competition is different with Bronze drivers driving more than professional drivers. Having said that, we scored big points for the championship. We couldn't have done better. The first objective was to stay out of trouble."
