Sarah Bovy (Iron Dames): "We just have to swallow the disappointment"
When Sarah Bovy switched from the Ferrari 488 GTE to the Porsche 911 RSR she wasn't sure what to expect. It doesn't really make sense to drive for a new brand for the last year of the GTE category, but Iron Lynx is moving to Lamborghini this year and the Italian brand does not have a GTE in its catalogue. This is why this season in the WEC, Iron Dames is with Porsche and the technical support of Proton Competition, which knows the 911 RSR Spec-19 perfectly.
It was at Sebring that the Iron Dames contested their first WEC race with their new GTE. Sarah Bovy was quick to take the lead in the GTE-Am category, taking pole position by almost four tenths ahead of the nearest competitor. This was enough to give the race a good start. The Belgian driver gave the competition a hard time at the beginning of the race, but the rest of the race was more complicated due to an off-track excursion of one of her teammates. The time lost in repairs could not be made up and the trio of Bovy, Frey and Gatting finished in 8th place, three laps behind the leaders in GTE-Am on the bumpy tarmac of Sebring.
Once the chequered flag was crossed, there was a sense of disappointment for Sarah Bovy who was competing with the Iron Dames in the 12 Hours of Sebring the following day, this time in a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 (11th place in GTD at the finish).
"We clearly had the pace to fight at the front," Sarah Bovy told Endurance-Info at the finish of the 1000 Miles of Sebring. "We were there! We just have to swallow the disappointment. However, I'm not worried about the rest of the championship. It's really nice to be able to drive this Porsche 911 RSR."
Between WEC and IMSA, Sarah Bovy and her teammates alternated back and forth between the two paddocks : "Personally, I really concentrated on qualifying in the GTE. The driving style between the two is different. The Porsche has to be well placed at the entrance to the corners, whereas the Lamborghini requires more speed. The Sebring track is well suited to the Lamborghini, which is still very new with the EVO2 kit."
