WEC - Championship update after Sebring
With the opening round of the 2023 season over, what about the championships? In Hypercar, curiously, LMEM has decided not to change the points allocation rule despite the number of manufacturers present with two cars. Thus, only the points scored by the best placed car among the two designated by the manufacturer for the season are counted.
As a reminder, the 8-hour or 1,000-mile Florida round has a higher coefficient than a six-hour race, with 38 points awarded to the winners. While pole position still offers one point, there are no longer any points awarded to drivers and teams placed beyond tenth in their class.
Don't be surprised if the #48 Oreca of Hertz Team Jota does not feature in the LMP2 standings, as the car is not entered for the year, as it will be stored in the garage from Spa to make way for the Porsche 963. United Autosports and the trio who drove the #22 Oreca will leave Florida with 38 points for the win.
