 2004 was the year Roger Penske centralized his racing programs on 42 acres of land in Mooresville, an Iredell County town located about 50 miles from Charlotte, the largest city in North Carolina (USA). In addition to owning an IMSA, IndyCar Series and Nascar racing team, The Captain owns the IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

In 1971 with a Ferrari 512 M driven by Marko Donohue-David Hobbs and in 2022 with an Oreca 07 driven by Dane Cameron-Emmanuel Collard-Felipe Nasr. As a driver, Roger Penske took part in the French race once. That was in 1963 with a Ferrari 330 TR shared with Pedro Rodriguez.
