The Porsche 963 is set to make its racing debut at the end of the month, at the 61st edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona. Two cars are expected to be entered under the official Porsche Penske Motorsport banner. The same number of cars will be entered in the WEC, where the season will start at the 1000 miles of Sebring.

In addition, four 963s are expected to be entered by private teams in 2023, two in WEC and two in IMSA, although they will hit the track in April at best. In the World Endurance Championship, they will be entered by Jota and Proton Racing, which will also field one in the US alongside the one run by JDC-Miller MotorSports.

But this morning we learned through official channels that "For the 2024 season, Porsche plans to double the number of customer vehicles in both racing series from two to four. There’s no shortage of requests, as the brand enjoys a high level of trust."

So we could have as many as twelve 963s on the track next year, namely six in WEC and as many in IMSA. And it should be noted that the Jota and Proton teams seem to be interested. It is in fact with the aim of retaining its second entry ticket to the WEC that the British structure will once again enter an Oreca 07 in LMP2 this year.

This brings back memories of the Group C era, when we no longer counted the number of 956/962 cars run by private teams.
