Audi Sport customer racing Asia has announced four-time Macau GT Cup winner Edoardo Mortara for the forthcoming 69th Macau Grand Prix, where the man who earned the moniker ‘Mr Macau’ will debut the new Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II on the legendary 6.2km Guia street circuit.

“After our customers in Asia have remained loyal to the Macau Grand Prix in previous years, we are now delighted to see the comeback of Edoardo Mortara,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. “It’s great to see him back at the wheel of an Audi at the famous city race. A warm welcome back to Edo.”

“The Macau Grand Prix is a truly legendary race meeting, so it’s fitting that we bring Audi legend Edo Mortara to the city streets to compete for Audi’s fifth GT Cup title,” said Alexander Blackie, Manager of Audi Sport customer racing Asia. “We thank Audi Sport customer racing HQ for their strong support to bring this over the line, and now we cannot wait to go racing alongside our customers and teams.”

Swiss-Italian Mortara made history in 2010 when he became the first driver to win the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix twice. He earned the moniker ‘Mr Macau’ in 2013, after an historic third consecutive Macau GT Cup victory with Audi, the same year he also won the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup race held during the two-weekend 60th Macau Grand Prix celebrations. Mortara added a fourth Macau GT Cup victory in 2017, to bring his tally of wins on the notoriously unforgiving Guia Circuit to seven.

Having earned his stripes in junior single seater racing, finishing runner-up in the 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series, Mortara enjoyed multiple successful seasons with Audi in DTM, missing out on the 2016 championship by just four points. Mortara will be entered at the 69th Macau Grand Prix with Audi Sport Asia Team Absolute.

As a jewel in the crown of Asian motorsport, the Macau Grand Prix will once again be strongly supported by Audi customer teams, with additional entries to be announced in due course.

The 69th edition of the Macau Grand Prix begins on Thursday, November 17, with two, 25-minute free practice sessions for the Macau GT Cup. Two 25-minute qualifying sessions follow on Friday at 10:35 and 16:30, the best times over both setting the grid for race one. The eight-lap race one gets underway at 15:10 on Saturday November 19, with the final classification setting the starting order for race two. The main 12-lap race starts at 13:05 on Sunday (all races UTC+8)
