Malthe Jakobsen is one of the confirmations this year. The young Dane has everything to seduce a team: nice, well-mannered, fast, available and a team player. He is the unanimous choice of COOL Racing for a double LMP3 programme.

Less than two weeks after the European Le Mans Series finale, Malthe Jakobsen will celebrate his 19th birthday. The Sennels-born Dane started out in Formula 4 before bouncing back successfully in LMP3. He was first seen at RLR MSport before COOL Racing this season in a double programme of ELMS and Le Mans Cup, not forgetting the long races of IMSA where he finished runner-up.

Prior to the Portimao finale, Malthe Jakobsen had put everyone in agreement with five poles in as many qualifying sessions. However, the title is not assured for Malthe Jakobsen, Maurice Smith and Michael Benham in the #17 Ligier JS P320.

The trio are 19 points off the lead. The zeros scored at Monza and Spa-Francorchamps have weighed in the balance.

Malthe Jakobsen has discovered in COOL Racing a structure that suits him well. "It's been a great season for me," the Dane told Endurance-Info. "COOL Racing is like a family and it was a great opportunity for me to join them last winter. It's a real bonus for me to be able to race two programmes with the same team."

For the Le Mans Cup part, the title is no longer possible but a runner-up position with Maurice Smith is more than possible. The tandem is 7 points away from the second place.

The adventure between Malthe Jakobsen and COOL Racing will not end after the final race in Portimao, as he will be racing in the Asian Le Mans Series, this time in the Oreca 07 with Alexandre Coigny.

"Driving in the Asian Le Mans Series will allow me to accumulate kilometres in the LMP2 class," said the COOL Racing driver. "I had the opportunity to test the Oreca 07 during a practice session at Paul Ricard and then in Barcelona. It's more than just a big LMP3 because there are new things to learn."

Malthe Jakobsen's objective is clear, as he explains: "My goal is to become a professional driver. Winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans is the ultimate goal, but the first goal is to compete in it. This is my third season in LMP3 and I will do everything I can to move up a category. I started out in single-seaters but I quickly realised that it was going to be hard to achieve my goal."
