Maxime Martin leaves Aston Martin. Back to BMW?
Maxime Martin's last race could be Petit Le Mans in an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 entered by The Heart of Racing in GTD. After that it will be time for the Belgian driver to move on to other areas. Max Martin is leaving Aston Martin Racing at the end of the year.
The 2019/2020 World Endurance Championship runner-up in the GTE class, the Uccle native won his class at the 2020 Le Mans 24 Hours with Aston Martin Racing.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Maxime for the huge contribution he has made to the Vantage programme", said Huw Tasker, Head of AMR Partner Racing. "He’s been an integral part of Vantage’s development and actually gave the GT3 car its race debut at the Nürburgring in 2018 alongside Darren Turner. He won the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans with us and played a vital role in our Manufacturers’ World Championship in 2020 and came close to clinching the Drivers’ title as well. We wish him well in the future.”
Maxime Martin joined Aston Martin Racing after a long and successful collaboration with BMW, both in GT and DTM. It is indeed within the propeller brand that we could find him in 2023, as Endurance-Info revealed yesterday in the story on the winter mercato. A move to WRT, which will run BMWs next season, is clearly what is being discussed.
