4 H. of Barcelona - FP1 : IDEC Sport stays at the top

IDEC Sport were at the top of the timing screens after the first Free Practice session ahead of Sunday’s 4 Hours of Barcelona, round 4 of the 2022 European Le Mans Series.

The 90-minute session was interrupted by one Full Course Yellow to recover the no88 AF Corse Oreca that had stopped on track and two red flags.The first red flag was shown when the no43 Inter Europol Competition went off at Turn 9.The car was recovered and continued in the session. The second happened with just six minutes left on the clock when the no13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier went off at T4 and the session was not resumed.

 

The no28 IDEC Sport Oreca set the early pace and continued to hold the top spot for most of the session, with Paul Loup Chatin setting a 1m35.757 lap of the 4.675km Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, just 0.1 seconds ahead of the no19 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca of Bent Viscaal.

 

Before the issue that caused the car to stop on track, the no88 AF Corse Oreca was running in third spot overall and at the head of the six LMP2 Pro-Am runners, with Alessio Rovera setting a 1m35.887, just 0.13 behind the lead car and just 0.03s behind the no19 Oreca.

The LMP3 class was headed by the no13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier despite the car causing the red flag that caused the session to be halted six minutes early. The 1m41.527 lap by the 4 Hours of Monza LMP3 winners, set by Nicolas Pino, was 0.21s ahead of the next car, the no6 360 Racing Ligier of Ross Kaiser.

 

The two United Autosports Ligiers were 3rd and 4th fastest with the no3 Ligier finishing with a best lap of 1m41.931, four tenths behind the lead car and 0.157s ahead of their teammates in the no2 Ligier.

 

The LMGTE class was headed by the no69 Oman Racing with TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage after Marco Sorensen posted a 1m45.744 lap, just 0.011s head of the no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari 488 of Frederik Schandorff and 0.191s ahead of the no18 Absolute Racing Porsche Alessio Picariello.

 

The second Free Practice session of the 4 Hours of Barcelona weekend will take place at 11h10 tomorrow morning, which will be followed by qualifying at 15h45 in the afternoon.
