For the moment, BMW is rather discreet in terms of communication. It's a pity, because the M Hybrid V8 is certainly one of the most beautiful LMDh.

As a reminder, it is based on the LMP2 chassis designed by Dallara and powered by an extrapolation of the P66/3 turbocharged V8 that powered the M4 DTM in 2017 and 2018. As for the hybrid-battery-gearbox unit, it is - as is the case for all cars complying with the LMDh regulations - the work of Bosch-Williams-Xtrac.

According to our information, the first drive in Varano was somewhat complicated. Last week, in Barcelona, the M Hybrid V8 would have been able to put in the miles, even in the rain, as you can see on the photos. Although no official communication has been made, the drivers involved have all been very enthusiastic on their various social networks, but is this surprising?

As yet, no drivers have been announced for either IMSA next year with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing or for the WEC in 2024 with WRT. However, we have tried to identify the lucky ones who have already had the chance to test the car.

According to reliable sources, the following drivers have already taken the wheel of the car

  • Sheldon van der Linde (South Africa / 23 years old)
  • Nick Yelloly (Great Britain / 31 years old)
  • Marco Wittmann (Germany / 32 years old)
  • Connor de Philippi (USA / 29 years old)
  • Augusto Farfus (Brazil / 38)

So many candidates for a seat. But they won't be the only ones, as there is a good chance that in 2024, WRT affiliated drivers such as Robin Frijns (Netherlands / 31 years old), Dries Vanthoor (Belgium / 24 years old) and René Rast (Germany / 35 years old) will also be part of the World Endurance Championship.
