Over the years, everyone gets confused with the FIA driver categorisations. 2023 should harmonise everything. Time will tell if the expected changes are going in the right direction.

It's been several years since the FIA driver categorisation has found its limits. Between the derogations, the incessant requests to be downgrades whereas the goal of a sportsman is to go higher and higher, we don't understand much anymore. Motorsport is breaking the rules of other sports.

From next season, these rules will change. Stéphane Ratel, president and founder of SRO Motorsports Group, gave some information during his traditional press conference at Spa-Francorchamps.

Following this press conference, and despite the story published on the subject, many of you have asked us about the subject. Endurance-Info takes a look at the new regulations for next season.

The changes were validated by the FIA World Council on 29 June this year and will come into force on 1 January 2023. The new rules are being implemented in collaboration with IMSA and the ACO.

The four FIA categories remain in place: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze. So what can we expect next season?

Platinum: professional drivers.

Gold: main activity around driving in motor sport, karting at high level for three seasons or more.

Silver: first licence before 30, driver under 30 without a significant career in single-seater racing or karting, driver under 30 with a career start between 20 and 30.

Bronze: 1st licence after 30 years.

The averages of each driver will again be taken into account to see the level of each one.

The age for demotion will change from 50 to 55 depending on the performance of the pilot. Any provisional downgrade will be reviewed after one year.

From 2023 onwards, there will be four categories in the SRO GT3 'Endurance' championships.

Pro: no limitation

Silver Cup 2022 becomes Gold Cup: 3 drivers ranked Gold

Gold Cup 2022 becomes Silver Cup: 1 Platinum/Gold - 1 Silver - 1 Bronze

Pro-Am Cup 2022 becomes Bronze Cup: 1 Pro - 2 Am
