For its return in Spa 24 Hours, GPX Martini Racing did everything right: meticulous preparation, a quality crew and a mythical livery. Unfortunately, the mechanics decided otherwise.

Tastes and colours are debatable but it's safe to say that the best looking livery of the 24H of Spa was the Porsche 911 GT3 R/GPX Martini Racing of Kevin Estre, Richard Lietz and Michael Christensen.

The #221's race looked good with the Porsche remaining in the top half of the field. Unfortunately for the 2019 Spa winning team, the night proved fatal for the trio in the #221 as they were forced to retire. The Porsche's engine would not restart after the red flag.

"We followed our plan to the letter during the week," said Pierre-Brice Mena, GPX Martini Racing team principal. "Despite testing being disrupted by numerous red flags, we found performance quite quickly. The drivers and the technical team were calm before the race. We applied a staggered strategy that gave us a small advantage over other favourites, and allowed us to take some opportunities. We stayed between P2 and P4 until the sudden engine failure. We will now work on the rest of our GT3 endurance programme which will be a mix of familiar circuits and new experiences."

Several races are under consideration between now and the end of the year. Unsurprisingly, the Intercontinental GT Challenge final at Yas Marina is part of the plans, as is a return to the 24 Hours of Dubai next January, the event won in 2021. The 24 Hours of Daytona is also on the list of considerations.
