It was the mid-1990s, the 962 was no longer eligible for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Porsche did not want to let the its opponents steal the show in GT. The problem was that all-wheel drive was banned in competition, preventing the German manufacturer from entering its 911 Turbo.

This is how the 911 GT type 993 was born - nicknamed 911 GT2 - a "special homologation", a car only designed to obtain homologation for racing. In simple terms, it is a turbo powered by the same 3.6 l. flat 6 engine – with a bigger boost pressure - which is only connected to the rear axle, thus saving considerable weight.

With 430 horsepower in its first version (450 in its second), it has wing extensions to accommodate race tyres, a unique rear wing and front splitter, giving it such a sexy look. To be homologated, a small series of production models was produced. Among them, very rare ClubSports (some say barely 20), even more racy and devoid of any comfort elements! This Porsche is the most radical of all 911 with an air-cooled engine.

This is the one we are offering you here with Benoît Tréluyer behind the wheel. To see him having so much fun at the wheel and getting back to pure driving without any assistance was a real treat. Let's go !
