A unique Trophy for the 2023 Le Mans 24 Hours winners
When a team wins the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it retains the trophy for one year before it is put back into the game the following year. To keep it ad vitam æternam, you have to win three years in a row, which is what happened to Toyota between 2018 and 2020. Before that, Audi and Porsche did the same.
2023 marks the centenary year of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which adds to the desire to win this unique event. Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO, told the ACO Club members' last night that a unique 24 Hours of Le Mans Trophy would be put up for grabs next year. There will only be one, hence its rarity.
Like the Olympic flame, the Trophy will travel from circuit to circuit. It will be on display from the Fuji WEC meeting next October, before a visit to Bahrain, then Sebring and Spa. It will then be displayed on the podium of the 2023 Le Mans 24 Hours, where it will be presented to the winning manufacturer.
Other activities relating to the centenary of the event will be organised. The festivities will begin this summer in California at Pebble Beach with two stages dedicated to the Le Mans classic. The 2023 Trophy will be presented at Pebble Beach.
The Goodwood Revival will then take on the 24 Hours of Le Mans, followed by Chantilly Arts and Elegance Richard Mille at the end of September. The ski resort of St Moritz will also be on Le Mans time, as will Rétromobile in February. Events will be organised in Paris in May 2023 before THE big centenary race.
The aim is to bring together all the cars that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, or at least 2/3 of them, which is not easy. An exhibition of 24 cars from the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be organised. The WM which holds the speed record is already announced, as well as a Ferrari P4. The city of Le Mans will be in the colours of the 24H du Mans to celebrate the event. It should be remembered that Le Mans Classic will also be held in July 2023.
