WEC Spa - News of the morning...
- FIA and ACO stickers are appearing on the cars. Not all the cars were fitted with the stickers yesterday during free practice.
- The PREMA Orlen Team drivers present their 6H of Spa, second round of the WEC. Louis Delétraz, Lorenzo Colombo and Robert Kubica explain everything in a video.
- The #7 GR010 HYBRID Toyota's session was cut short due to a minor technical problem. The #7 finished the session in 8th place. The #8 followed a different test programme with a final 13th place behind 10 LMP2 cars.
- After its success at the 1000 Miles of Sebring, the Alpine Endurance Team is looking to build on its success at Spa-Francorchamps. The first free practice session ended in 14th place, nearly two seconds off the lead. "We played two different games", said team boss Philippe Sinault. "The LMP2s were more in a qualifying performance mode. Things will get back to normal."
- With nearly 30 horsepower less than at Sebring, the Alpine A480 remained behind the competition yesterday afternoon. "This drop is significant", Nico Lapierre told Endurance-Info. "Of course, you can feel this kind of change behind the wheel. It's hard to analyse the performance of the Toyotas at Sebring, which was quite incomprehensible. Here, the BOP is less advantageous and we try to do the best we can. Spa has always been a good rehearsal before Le Mans."
- Spa-Francorchamps marks the first meeting for WRT where the team has already made its mark in WEC. The Belgian team of Vincent Vosse and Yves Weerts started their world campaign here in 2021. A difficult race with a 12th place in LMP2.
- Even if it is not present in the WEC this season, DragonSpeed keeps a foot in endurance racing with an IMSA programme. The American team led by Elton Julian has just set up a partnership with Cusik Motorsports for the Indy 500. Stefan Wilson will drive the #25 car.
- The official poster for the 24 Hours of Le Mans Drivers' Parade features Alpine. 2022 will mark the A480's last appearance at Le Mans.
- GTE-Am teams will use the 2021 Michelin tyre range at Fuji. Like other manufacturers, the Clermont-Ferrand-based firm is facing basic material problems.
- Memo Gidley, winner of the 4H du Castellet in the GTE class in a Ferrari 488 GTE/Rinaldi Racing car, won't be at Imola for the 2nd round of ELMS The American driver will race at the same time in the IMSA Prototype Challenge in the Duqueine D08/AI Autosport with JDC at Mid-Ohio with Alexander Koreiba.
