In the context of the growing appeal of motor sport on the Arabian Peninsula, GPX Events is preparing the Clio Cup Middle East in partnership with Alpine Racing. Everything points to this new series becoming an ideal addition to the disciplines of motor sport already flourishing around the 25th North parallel like karting, single-seaters, grand touring cars and endurance.

GP Extreme has already achieved great renown in particular through the sporting saga of its branches GPX Racing and GPX Historic in events ranging from the 24 Hours of Spa to the Historic Monaco Grand Prix, the Asian Le Mans Series and the GT World Challenge Europe. GPX Events is also part of the Dubai team founded by Frédéric Fatien and managed by Pierre-Brice Mena, which won its spurs in style in the field of promotion when it organized the Historic Dubai Grand Prix Revival last December. This event, whose second edition will take place at the end of November, was a resounding success so it comes as no great surprise that GPX Events is looking to diversify its activities on the Dubai Autodrome and beyond.

Pierre-Brice Mena (GP Extreme managing director): “The creation of the Clio Cup Middle East, which will be run to the same format as its European counterparts, is something our heart has been set on for a long time. We really believe in this formula as it provides a wonderful opportunity for the greatest possible number of enthusiasts to access motor sport, which has always been engraved in the ADN of GP Extreme. Our mission is to develop a series that interests young drivers and enlightened amateurs, locals as well as Europeans who would like to race during the winter period to prepare for their forthcoming season. Moreover, we’re happy to affirm the solid links that unite us to the Renault Group, which go back to the time we entered RS01s for races. We were also partners of the Formula Renault Eurocup and have been importers of the Clio Cup since 2021. As such, we’ve already sold a good number of cars and our aim is to have between 15 and 20 entries for the first season before targeting bigger numbers afterwards. After demonstrating the quality of our standards in the Historic Grand Prix Revival by Gulf Historic it’s clear that we have the will to do things really well.”

Benoit Nogier (sales manager racing, Alpine Racing): “We’re really delighted to launch this new offshoot of the Clio Cup in collaboration with our privileged partners at GP Extreme. For several months now the GPX Events team has been working nonstop to bring this project to fruition while continuing to show the quality and seriousness of their efforts in the organization of sporting events. We have complete confidence in their talents to make the Clio Cup Middle East an essential step on the automotive landscape in this region; we’re convinced that the package we’re putting in place together will attract many competitors whether they are local or European, novices or experienced drivers.”

The calendar of the six meetings still has to be confirmed. Rendezvous in May to find out more and this coming autumn for the first bumper-to-bumper battles which the Renault coupes - since the mythic R8 Gordini - have accustomed us to wherever they’ve raced!
