Wiltshire followed up pole position and victory in Race 1 with a measured display in Race 2, which took place beneath the morning sun in Texas.

Wiltshire led the pack away on the rolling start and retained the lead through a closely-fought opening lap, amid frantic scraps for position further down the top 10.

David Brise made his move at the start of lap two, ducking to the inside of Wiltshire’s Acura ARX-05 at the Turn 1 hairpin, and Wiltshire gave him plenty of room to complete a clean overtake.

The pack were brought together by the Safety Car, necessitated by an incident at Turn 11 involving the #8 of James Hagan and #226 of Tony Ferraro, which left fluid on the track that needed to be cleaned up.

At the restart Brise commandingly stretched clear, putting a few seconds between himself and nearest rival Wiltshire, who came in to the pits for his mandatory stop at the end of lap seven.

Brise continued pushing for a further lap, setting new fastest sector times, before he too ducked into pit lane, handing over duties behind the wheel to Alan Purbrick.

Purbrick re-emerged on track at the helm of the field and immediately Wiltshire started his pursuit, clocking best sector times, dipping into the 1:59s for the first time all race.

Purbrick hung onto his position until the start of lap 12, as Wiltshire’s strong pace allowed him through at the start of the lap, and he reeled off the remaining laps to chalk up his second victory of the weekend.

“I got in early, huffing and puffing because of how early it was, and kind of knew that I just had to get my head down, let the cold tyres get warm and bring it home – P1 and champion again,” said a jovial Wiltshire.

Purbrick brought the Lola B12/60 home in second place, to replicate his and Brise’s Race 1 result.

“It went well, David got me a bit of a gap but it wasn’t quite enough to hold onto the lead, Stuart’s in a very quick car and he’s a quick driver,” Purbrick said. “But I’m pleased, I’ve never been to COTA before, so yesterday was a bit of a baptism of fire, learning the track, and it’s a phenomenal place to go racing.”

George Kurtz again ran a lonely race to once more claim third spot, fronting the GT category.

Travis Engen survived a battling first lap to collect fourth position, while Chris Ronson Sr and Jr. charged through the pack, having started from last place after a failure in Race 1.

The Ronsons brought the car home in fifth position, ahead of the Stratford pairing, Mark finishing four seconds ahead of Philip in sixth and seventh respectively.

Mark Drain collected eighth position, with the top 10 rounded out by Scott Smith and Max Moritz.
