ABT competes with two Lamborghini in 24-hour classic
It will be ABT’s twelfth appearance in the 24-hour classic. In 2023, the brand returned to the Nordschleife alongside Lamborghini after a five-year break and has caused quite a stir in the past two years. With two cars on the grid, the team led by Motorsport Director Martin Tomczyk is now looking to attack the front. “We know and love the special challenges of this race – that’s what makes it so fascinating. With our extended commitment we want to be even better prepared for all eventualities,” says Tomczyk. “Having two cars on the grid gives us twice the chance of managing the 24 hours without any major incidents.“ When it comes to the selection of drivers, ABT can rely on huge experience at the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: With Mirko Bortolotti (Italy), Christian Engelhart (Germany), Luca Engstler (Germany), Marco Mapelli (Italy), Jordan Pepper (South Africa) and Franck Perera (France), the line-up includes six drivers from the Lamborghini squad, joined by Spaniard Dani Juncadella. “We are delighted to have put together such a strong team,” says Martin Tomczyk. “Not only do the guys have a lot of GT3 and Lamborghini experience, but they also fit together very well on a personal level – and they all want to be successful in this famous race.” The drivers will be assigned to the two cars at a later date.
The motorsport partnership between ABT and Lamborghini, which began two years ago with the first joint outing in the Eifel, continues to grow: this season, ABT is also fielding two Huracán GT3 EVO2 cars in the DTM, plus the greater commitment to the Nordschleife. “We are delighted to have ABT as a strong partner at our side and to support the team on and off the track,” says Rouven Mohr, CTO of Lamborghini. “We have learnt a lot over the past two years and are now looking forward to the next attempt at ‘double dedication’ this year.” The first partners for the race have already been signed. Like last year, Red Bull will set the appearance on the racetrack. The Schaeffler Group, SÜDPACK and H&R are also on board. “It is great to see the huge interest of our partners in this project,” says Head of Sports Marketing Harry Unflath. “Even if not all partners are confirmed yet, one thing is clear: the fans can look forward to two spectacular Lamborghini race cars from Kempten.” This weekend (21/22 March), preparations for the season’s highlight will also begin on the racetrack: ABT will be fielding a car in the first event of the ADAC Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS). Bortolotti, Engstler, Juncadella and Pepper will take turns at the wheel. The next outings are scheduled for the NLS race on 9/10 May and the qualifiers from 23–25 May.
