Although there have been rumours of Alfa Romeo's arrival in the Hypercar class, Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of the Italian firm, has calmed things down.

Alfa Romeo won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times between 1931 and 1934. There have also been a few notable, if not victorious, appearances since then, notably in the 60s and 70s with the T33/B2 and 33/3. But nothing since 1973.

With Sauber's destiny in Formula 1 linked to that of Audi, the Swiss entity obviously did not extend its marketing partnership with Alfa Romeo. But the end of this union and a few convoluted statements in the Italian press have given rise to various rumours about a possible arrival of the Italian firm in the Hypercar class. This information might seem surprising given that the Stellantis group is already present with its Peugeot 9X8.

However, earlier this month, in an interview with L'Argus, the brand's CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato admitted that he was "not convinced by the economic equation", with the massive arrival of numerous manufacturers having led to a "tendency towards inflation in expenditure".

While the journalist suggests an investment of 250 million euros, this clearly does not correspond to the sums heard and desired by the legislator. This is despite the fact that a few months ago, the President of Honda Racing Corporation US admitted in this very forum that such a project "is more expensive than originally planned, but it's not out of control either".
